No water but lots of women
This is an enlightening and very positive article in the New York Times about the recent boomer conference in Florida.
It makes no earth shattering conclusions but gives a good feel of the boomer world, well certainly the world of Florida and the world of boomers who want to pay $195 for a day of speeches from boomer experts
Laurie Orlov, the founder of Aging in Place Technology Watch, receives a lot of comment, deservedly, about her views about the way technology is being sold to the “stay at home” older person and their children. I thought this was a nice quote: “This is a kind of sad market right now.” She is absolutely right. You get the feeling that technology companies are almost embarrassed or feel obliged to be developing and selling products into this market, but their heart isn’t in it.
Notice anything about the photo from the conference? Two things. No water (terrific) and lots of women. If anybody attended the conference, did this photo represent the mix of women/men attending? Dick Stroud
