Fragmented Care

Did you know that BupaCare Homes is the largest care home provider ? Not really unexpected BUT they only have 4% market share. This has got to make the care market one of the most fragmented markets and presumably one of the most difficult to standardize and manage.

And also did you know that 70% of care is at the moment government funded . I'd say this is likely to reduce significantly as the threshold for government contribution (C £19,000 ie government don't pay anything if you have savings over this level) only increases by RPI, but peoples wealth increases at higher levels. So presumably the government isn't too interested in the issue because it expects its funding to decrease ! So, in response to Dick's last blog, there is likely to be less and less to hand down to future generations as people use their accumulated wealth to fund there own care. Start saving!
