The Digital Divide

If you haven’t signed-up for Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox newsletter about web usability you should. Do it now.

This guy really does know what he is talking about and expresses himself in simple no BS English.

His latest article about the Digital Divide has some interesting insights. He divides the divide into three layers.
Economic (unable to purchase internet services)
Usability (unable to use Internet services because of poor design)
Empowerment (unable to efficiently use the Internet because of lack of initiative and skill)

He is optimistic about removing the first two divides but less so about the third. Unfortunately, all three apply to the 50-plus. Dick Stroud
