Pew Internet research gives the latest on social networking and Twitter use by age group

Be careful with these numbers from Pew Internet. They only represent 'internet users' not the total population. So 43% of the over 65s in the US are now using social media. Mmmm I wonder to what extent? Just 5% of over 65s are using Twitter - sounds about right. Dick Stroud
