A week is a long time in the footwear industry.

On the 5th July, when observing the way the footwear industry was coming to terms with the older consumer I said that ‘Nike continues to primarily focus on the teen segment’. All change. The company just went and purchased the company that was famous in the US for the classic canvas and rubber "Chuck Taylor All Stars." Basketball shoes.

Believe me I do not have some special interest in footwear. What I am interested in is the rationale for the purchase. The popularity of ‘retro’ shoes is being driven by the 50 plus consumer. Well at least the footwear industry is getting the message.
