This is the title of a very well written article in The Age, one of Australia’s best newspapers. It provides a disturbing insight into the dynamics of the property market as the 50+ attempt to release equity from their properties.
The article makes reference to a report that was used as part of the country’s last budget setting cycle, titled the Intergenerational Report.
I think this is best analysis I have seen of the resulting economic and social changes that occur as a country’s population ages. It’s a pity we don’t have something similar in the UK.
The marketing implications of these change, good and bad, are immense, yet I still don’t see companies giving it serious attention. I am now convinced they just don’t have the business processes in place to deal with changes of this magnitude.
