I have a hunch, no more than a hunch, that the gap in understanding between your 30-something marketer and the 50+ male is a lot less than it is about the mindset of the 50+ female. I am also pretty certain that this difference is magnified when it comes to the use of interactive media.
Mary Lou Quinlan is the CEO of Just Ask a Woman, a New York based marketing consultancy dedicated to building business with women. She has written a couple of books about marketing to the female consumer.
She touches on this issue in a recent press interview.
Her comments about the difference between real age and ‘perceived age’ were interesting "Women, especially, see themselves at least 10, if not 15, years younger than they are. So the women who are in their 40s and 50s are split between laughing at how marketers don't get them and being annoyed."
It would be great if there was some decent research about the issues of 50+ male and female marketing. If anybody has any sources please let me know.
