I was recently asked this question. My response was ‘pretty much the same places everybody else goes’. There is research showing 50+ preferences by different type of activity (e.g. e-mail, chat, use of the Web) and by type of product and service. However, this question implied there were Web sites that would be particularly relevant to the 50+.
I used Google to see the organisations who had bought its ‘sponsored links’, these are the web sites you see on the right had side of the Google screen, as an indication of what other people thought the 50+ might be searching for. The phrases I used were ‘over 50’, 50plus, retired, baby boomer. I am not sure what this says but here are the results.
One site for Dating. A 50+ Portal ( a site that is all about ‘50+ issues’). Two sites for the Christian Faith. One finance site. Two sites offering second income 'opportunities'.
Then a couple of really strange ones - an online library and some software especially for the retired.
What a combination!
