Amazon moves the goal posts

This is has nothing to do with 50+ marketing, and is only loosely connected to the previous post about Newsletters, but it marks a major development in the marketing of media (online and print). Since the 23 Oct, the home page of Amazon contains a letter from Mr Bezos announcing the company’s latest innovation in online purchasing - "Search Inside the Book" Amazon now enables customers to find and discover books by searching the full text inside them, not just matches to author or title keywords.

In collaboration with publishers, the company allows all 33 million pages in 120,000 books from 190 publishers to be searched prior to purchase. Some of the big names publishers are in the first group to provide this service (Wiley, Time Warner Book Group, Simon & Schuster, Inc., Random House, Inc., McGraw-Hill Professional, HarperCollins Publishers)

I bet there are some interesting meetings going on in the board rooms of the other publishers, book sellers and online media providers!
