Alternative health really is big business

I have to admit that I had never heard of Phillips International. The fact that it is one of the world’s largest publishers of newsletters (paper and online), has a turnover of $250 million with a million paid subscribers makes that even more embarrassing.

The thing that interested me a about the company was the titles that it publishes, since they indicates the subjects that interest the consumer to the extent they are willing to pay to be kept informed. Newsletters about health issues make up the majority of the revenues. Subjets like ‘health & healing’, ‘alternatives’ and ‘health wisdom for women’.

What is so interesting is that each newsletter has an ‘alternative’ theme, aimed at women and about subjects of interest to the 50+. This thirst for information must be linked to a similar demand for products and services.
