I suppose it reassuring when you read through a presentation that roughly reflects your own views. The danger is paying undue attention to ideas you agree with and dismissing the others!
A couple of weeks ago FIND/SVP broadcast a Webinar entitled ‘How to Market to Baby Boomers’. If you want to have a look at the broadcast it is available from this link. Beware, it requires a plug-in to view the Webinar.
It is probably a lot easier and more likely to work to download the presentation
There was nothing startling in the results and they appear to be very light on any form of qualitative evidence to support the conclusions, but this is the picture they paint of the boomer generation.
. Aging and don’t like it
. Sandwiched between dependent children and living parents
. Plenty of financial obligations and demands on their time
. Significantly behind, financially, in preparing for retirement
. Frustrated in work and hitting the ‘silver ceiling’
Sound like anybody you know?
Two free pieces of marketing advice that are nothing to do with 50+ Marketing.
1. The description of your company should engender some excitement and interest and not appear as if it was selected from an Inland Revenue handbook. This is how Find/SVP describes themselves ‘...We are a knowledge services company that leverages the expertise and resources of our dedicated professional research teams to help executives enhance their business performance, profit from opportunities, and address critical business issues...’ Not good.
2. If you use Webinar technology then make sure it works. Two evenings ago BT made a broadcast to a few thousand people in the UK. So far I have yet to find anybody who was able to see, listen or contribute to the event. Far better to have created detailed briefing notes and a presentation and a forum for debate.
