Estee Lauder, Avon, Elizabeth Arden and Lancome nearly strike gold

The costs of some anti-aging creams are just a tad below the cost of gold. Estee Lauder now charges $250 for a 1.7-ounce jar of its Re-Nutriv cream. This company is not alone in finding that the more you charge for these potions the more popular they become.

Research by NPD came up with these amazing stats: products costing more than $70 made up 14% of total skincare sales last year, up from just 5% in 2000. Skincare products priced at $100+ represented as much as 26% of this up category, compared with 21 % in the previous year.

This long article in Forbes gives a fascinating insight into one product category that is clearly benefiting from an aging population.
