If the Spanish tragedy had not made you feel miserable enough then the BBC has a series of programmes that will ensure you feel really depressed. The Beeb is running a series of five programmes called IF. What happens when we run out of energy; when are consumed by global inequality; when we are so fat we stop moving and die in our beds; when women take over the world (that sounds pretty good to me) and when the aging population pits the young against the old.
If...the generations fall out will be broadcast on BBC Two on Wednesday, 24 March, 2004 at 2100 GMT.
The promotional copy for programme says: "Anyone that doesn't think there's a big generational war coming must be on Prozac," says Laurence Kotlikoff, professor of economics at Boston University and author of 'The Coming Generational Storm'.
This is matched by a statement from Chet Tremmel (Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations). "We are not going to keep quiet when a band of pampered pensioners steal the future from us."
OK, if you cannot wait until the 24th March for your shot of generational depression then you can read what both contributors will be saying. The text of Kotlikoff’s book and the raison detre of Tremmel’s organisation.
Have a nice day.
