Nice phrase “Old age is the youngest market to exploit”

This article caught my eye in the Sunday Times. It was a good bit of self publicity for a Howard and Marika Stone who have published a book “Too Young to Retire: 101 Ways to Start the Rest of Your Life” The article’s opened by saying “Pensioners are refusing to grow old gracefully” and then went with the revelation that “once upon a time, retirement meant pottering about in the garden and playing the odd round of golf before the grim reaper came to call. Not any more.”
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Come on guys I think this message may have already got through to the addled old brains of the old.
Just imagine starting an article about teenagers by saying. Once upon a time, growing up meant that you could stay up late and have the occasional glass of alcohol. Not any more.

The article then went on with revelations about “Whether through choice or necessity, pensioners are refusing to go quietly. Some are continuing to work”. Well I am shocked.

We then had the same old examples (Ford Motor Company is reported to have begun designing a car specifically aimed at the older generation. Music retailers are busy delivering Led Zeppelin sound-alikes to fans of the 1970s group. Microsoft has introduced a feature in its Windows software to enlarge the size of text, and innovations to make it easier to use the keyboard.)

I am always pleased to see coverage about business and the aging population, but come on, let’s start to say something new.

I still like the article’s headline.
