In Japan, baby boomers are defined as those born between 1947 and 1949 (an amazingly narrow definition). According to 2004 government statistics, their population is estimated at 6.8 million, roughly 30 percent to 50 percent more than their counterparts in the neighboring three-year brackets.
This group of people are fast reaching the point of retirement. "All conditions being equal, the country's worker population will decrease by 1.32 million in 2010, compared with 2004," said Ryutaro Kono, chief economist at BNP Paribas Securities (Japan).
This is a fascinating article about the aging of Japan’s population. Remember, when it comes to aging populations, where Japan goes today, Europe goes tomorrow. Dick Stroud www.20plus30.com
