A sign of the changing times

This is nothing to do with the 50-plus other than the implications affect all ages.

This week I emerged from Waterloo Station (Central London) and there were the usual array of people wanting to thrust their newspaper into my hand. Normally the freebie paper is something that you consume in a couple of minutes. The best that can be said is that it is news lite. Not this time.

Instead of the London Metro the paper being dished out was the China Daily European Edition.

This is not a read for the faint hearted. Unlike the Metro it has lots of words, in long sentences and is very well written, covering international news and business related issues.

I would imagine that 99.9% of the free papers were never read and the same high proportion of my fellow travellers had no idea of the significance of what was happening. You're not in Kansas anymore - once more - you're not in Kansas anymore. Dick Stroud
