Advertising is not my natural forte

A couple of days ago I posted a copy of an advert that appeared in the UK Marketing press, from a radio station called talkSPORT. It was intentionally provocative with a picture of an older lady sitting on a stair lift. Nothing original there!!

I thought I would put pen to paper and see if Marketing Week will publish the letter. Instead of taking the indignant approach, that the advert was clearly trying to create, I decide a bit of mockery might be more appropriate.

Letter to the editor of Marketing Week

If nothing else, it is great to see TalkSport’s advertising remains consistent. A darting boot into the competitor’s groin (Classic FM), simultaneously winding-up the marketing oldies by the highly original photo of gran sitting on a stair lift, topped by the snigger inducing copy “Classic FM listener’s all time favourite: Chairway to Heaven”.

A big ‘thank you’ to Kelvin and his boys at TalkSport. You got me thinking what an equivalent ad would look like if Classic FM were to take the same approach. If you want to see the result, have a look at www.crapadverts.com.

Before somebody points out that I should stick to the day job and not go into advertising, let me say they are absolutely right. An advertising natural, I am not. I think this is the only thing that I have in common with the marketing dynamos at TalkSport.
