Retiring in the Red

This research paper from Demos (US) makes depressing reading. It catalogues the increasing levels of debt amongst the 55+. What seems to be different about the US compared with the UK experience is that the levels of debt of those 65+ is increasing as fast as those a decade younger. I think part of the explanation for this is the cost of medical support and the funding of education.

The message that jumps from this data is that the income of retired people is going to more even fragmented than when then they were employed. This has a profound impact on how companies segment the 50+ market. Dick Stroud www.20plus30.com
