There is something about France

The British are a strange bunch. On one hand nothing gives us more pleasure than beating the French at something - well to be honest, beating them at anything. On the other hand we cannot get enough of French culture, food, countryside and the way of rural living.

It seems that 2.3 million people aged over 50 will retire abroad over the next ten years! I have no idea if this figure is correct but a lot of people are packing their bags, buying a house in France, Spain or one of the more exotic locations and bidding farewell to the UK.

I recently came across a web site that is all about moving to France. It seems that 600,000 British families own a property in France and 300,000 Brits live in France permanently with Brits representing 43% of all foreign investment in 2003 (35,000 properties).

I think this web site is great. It is full of useful content but above all it makes the idea of owning a French property so appealing – even to somebody like me who intends to spend his retirement moving between friends who have already bought a property.

It is interesting to know that the majority of the clients/prospects are 50 plus AND the majority are women. I would guess the same thing applies to the demographics of the site visitors. Dick Stroud
