This is an interesting chart from a presentation given by Bernard Salt, author the Big Shift. I really recommend that you visit this guy’s web site. He is a commentator upon the mega changes that affect consumers. Obviously, demographic change forms an important part of what he writes about.
This chart graphically shows how the lengthening age span has created new periods of life. I think the point he is making is that by 2008 there will be symmetrical period of life, mirroring adolescence, after adulthood. He calls it lifestyle.
Irrespective of the names or periods this is an interesting way to consider the changing patterns of life span. Of course this simple chart has to show an ‘average’ position. It would be interesting to see what shape he thinks the median plot would look. Dick Stroud
