On my 30th birthday I had to admit that my expectation to have become a millionaire and retired was going to have to wait a bit. Same thing on my 50th.
This research from AARP shows I am not alone.
Expected retirement age increases as worker age increases.
Workers ages 18-34 (54%) are more likely than workers ages 35-49 (33%) and workers ages 50+ (28%) to expect that they will retire before the age of 65.
Similarly, workers ages 35-49 (10%) and workers ages 50+ (12%) are more likely than workers ages 18-34 (3%) to indicate that they will retire at the age of 75 or older.
The dreadful thing is that the likely date of retirement is increasing with time. My bet is that the majority of 18-34 year olds will be lucky to be collecting their retirement pay check before the age of 75. Dick Stroud
