Two very moving TV programmes

This is not to do with 50-plus marketing but very much to do with the 50-plus. Understandably most commercial discussion is focused on the young end of the 50-plus. We tend to shy away from the issues of people in their 80s and 90s.

Last evening a programme was screened in the UK about a group of old people in Northampton, Massachusetts, with an average age of 80, who perform renditions of songs by the likes of OutKast, Jimi Hendrix, Talking Heads and Radiohead. These have won them sensational reviews wherever they perform, all over the world. Just have a look at the video clip on the TV station’s web site and the viewer’s responses.

Another programme was screened last evening that was a powerful and painful view of what happens as we live for longer than ever and what it means to the individual, their loved ones and our society. You can watch the whole of this programme on line. If you are interested in the 50-plus then best you get the whole story. Dick Stroud
