It seems that the UK has got the ‘green bug’ in 2006, with more than half of the public saying they recycled more and thought more about protecting the environment in the past year. The survey showed that just over 50% of respondents said they had increased recycling of household and started to turn off lights and electric appliances to help reduce their carbon footprint. Well that will make a fat lot of difference being the equivalent of about 30 minutes of China’s energy use.
I think we can discount the usefulness of the conclusions – what is interesting is that the report found that the over-50s were the most eco-aware and conscious of energy use. The next time you see a property with its own wind generator you are on a good bet that the owners are 50-plus. Dick Stroud
