Selling electronics to the 50-plus

50connect is one of the longest standing “50-plus” UK web sites. Its media blurb says it has 58,000 registered users and receives zillions of unique visitors and page impressions.

What interested me was to receive this e-mail trying to sell me a flat screen TV with a built-in PVR. I find this really encouraging that somebody has at long last realised that the 50-plus buy a lot of TVs and you might as well sell to them. Dick Stroud

Fashion turns to the supermodels of yesterday

In the September edition of Vogue it is Linda Evangelista, the 43-year-old who is the new face of Prada. The credit crunch seems to have a silver lining for the models of the 1990s.

In addition to Evangelista, Campbell (the one who keeps losing her temper on aircraft) is starring in the new Yves Saint Laurent campaign and Schiffer is modelling for Salvatore Ferragamo.

Carol White, managing editor of Premiership Model Management, says that the renaissance of the supermodels can be credited partly to the need to appeal to those who have more disposable income — generally older women — and the need to have models who are instantly recognisable when there is less cash to splash.
