The chief executive of News Corp. cited a recent report commissioned by the Carnegie Corporation, a philanthropic foundation, showing 44 percent of 18-to-34-year-olds say they use Web sites at least once a day for news.
Well that might be true but unfortunately this research did not ask the same questions to the 50-plus.
Had Mr Murdoch had look at the PewInternet research project that looked at how American’s receive news he would have been in for even more of a shock.
As can be seen below, the 50-plus who use broadband are more likely to have the Internet as a integral part of their newsgathering armoury than the under 30s. This research also found that overall the under 30s are becoming less interested in keeping up with the news.
I suspect that Mr Murdoch does personally use the Internet that much but he should not assume that he is representative of his age cohort! Dick Stroud www.20plus30.com
