Forth & Towne – not a firm of lawyers but the new Gap brand for older women

It has taken a month for Gap’s announcement about its new store chain, targeted at the older women (aged 35+), to filter over to Europe. Apparently the 35+ women accounts for 40% of apparel expenditures so one wonders why it has taken Gap so long to get around to addressing itself to this age group.

Gap’s press release explains “We created an address with the name ‘Forth & Towne’, because we wanted it to evoke a sense of place -- to signify a special and unique shopping destination,” explained Gary Muto President, Forth & Towne. “’Forth’ references our fourth brand, and ‘Towne’ conveys a sense of community that we want to create for our customers when they shop with us.” I bet you never thought of that!
