This article contains ‘tips’ about selling to seniors, the like of which you will have never seen before. None of this generational marketing rubbish. This is all about the boot on the throat techniques of selling.
There is the tried and tested 7Gs (gambling, gardening, golf, gourmet food, grandchildren, groups and Greyhound bus trips). These are reckoned to be certain topics that will engage seniors.
Then there is the advice to wear the American flag lapel pins, display photos of their grandchildren and refer to clients as "people like yourselves." Never fails to win.
Even better there is the company that runs local ads saying "Local Senior Sobs, Loses Half His Retirement Income in the Market -- Free Report Reveals How to Avoid the Same Mistakes." Apparently this brings a torrent of calls from anxious seniors -- and tens of thousands of dollars a month in sales commissions. It is known in the trade as: "getting the fish to chase the boat".
What is so terrifying is that I expect all of these tips work! Dick Stroud
