Yesterday I wrote an off-subject posting about my surprise that blogging has become a profession. Today I read that Reuters has invested $7m in social media blog firm Pluck.
This a mighty interesting company. Pluck syndicates 3,000 blogs to news media organisations, plus supplying a few other products and services. In the UK, Pluck links bloggers to The Guardian and Reuters.
The upside for traditional media is that they can enrich their content from blogs and for bloggers that they get a far larger exposure and since so many blogs now carry advertising (via Google) can make a few extra bucks. Hold on a minute – what now are the demarcations between old media and new social networking?
I will have a bet that within a year there will be a new generation of ‘real’ blogs untainted by the embrace of Murdoch and Reuters. Sorry I should have said, this has nothing to do with the 50-plus. But then all things are relevant to the 50-plus. Dick Stroud
