Honda's intention is that this ad is race-neutral. I think it works.

This is what Honda says about this ad.

"One reason we chose Nick" for the new promotion "is that he has universal appeal, and that's where we're going as a brand—to a total-market approach."  "We're leading with some insights in the African-American market but we're really making a general-market appeal".

I always thought that Honda did an excellent job of making its ads age-neutral. Looks like the company has now used the same approach to race. Dick Stroud
